I was commissioned by BBC Scotland to project manage their contribution (as lead player in the host committee) to staging the International Press Institute's World Congress. The particular project was just under a year in the planning from start to finish. The congress involved several hundred editors, publishers, senior journalists and media executives from around the world.
Managing a professional conference organising agency for the day-to-day event management services and dealing on a regular basis with the IPI board members, my role encompassed project management of the professional and social programme for the congress, logisitics of travel and venues, finance, sponsorship and all marketing materials.
I developed materials for, and participated in, sponsorship bids to gain extra funding for the event, as well as commissioning external fund raisers. I had the responsibility for the development, design and distribution of all publications - a series of leaflets, prospectuses, conference handbooks and congress reports, which were distributed worldwide. I contributed in large part to the copy and the picture research as well as having responsibility for proofreading, editing and print quality control.
